The Best Photo Spots in the High Tatras

The High Tatras are not only the highest mountain range in Slovakia but also one of the most picturesque places in Central Europe. Anyone who visits here has the chance to capture stunning natural scenery that is perfect for photography. If you’re looking for spots where you can take the best photos, you’ve come to the right place. Read on and get inspired by places that will take your breath away.
Recently, we announced a photo contest on our social media, where our followers could share their best photos from the High Tatras. We were amazed by the quality and creativity of the submitted photos. The six most beautiful shots made it to the finals, each capturing the unique atmosphere of the Tatra nature. The participants also shared stories behind their photos, and these stories inspired us to create this guide.
Lomnický štít: The King of Peaks
Lomnický Peak is one of the most popular destinations for tourists and photographers. From its summit, you get a panoramic view of the entire High Tatras and the surrounding landscape. If you’re lucky with the weather, the views are almost endless. Watching the sunrise from this spot is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that deserves to be captured.

Tip: Take the cable car to Lomnický Peak from Tatranská Lomnica, where TATRASUITES offers comfortable accommodation just steps from the starting station.
Štrbské pleso: The Mirror of the Tatras
Štrbské Pleso is an icon of the High Tatras and one of the most photogenic spots in Slovakia. The lake, surrounded by majestic mountains, offers countless opportunities to capture beautiful reflections and atmosphere, especially in autumn when the surrounding trees are colorful. Some of the best shots in our contest were taken here, in the early morning light, when the lake is calm, and its surface turns into a perfect mirror.
Tip: Book your accommodation directly at Štrbské Pleso in the TATRASUITES apartments, from where you’re just a few minutes’ walk from the lake.
Tatranská Magistrala: The Scenic Route
For those who love hiking and photography, the Tatranská Magistrala is the perfect choice. This hiking trail takes you through the most beautiful parts of the Tatras, where you can capture views that are impossible to miss. Our contest participants captured unique views of the High Tatras from different sections of the Magistrala, where each shot tells its own story.
Tip: Start your hike on the Magistrala from Tatranská Lomnica or Starý Smokovec, where you can stay in comfortable TATRASUITES apartments and begin your day right on the trail.
Skok Waterfall: The Power of Natur
Skok Waterfall is another favorite spot for photographers. This impressive waterfall is accessible via a short hike from the Mlynická Valley and offers a perfect opportunity to capture dramatic nature in all its glory. Many participants in our photo contest chose this waterfall because shots of water in motion add dynamism and a lively atmosphere to any album.
Tip: If you’re staying at TATRASUITES in Štrbské Pleso, Skok Waterfall is within easy reach.
Kriváň: The Symbol of Slovakia
Kriváň is a peak that is not only a symbol of Slovakia but also a challenge for many hikers. The ascent to Kriváň is not the easiest, but the views from the summit are definitely worth it. Photos from Kriváň often showcase a panoramic view of the Tatras and the surrounding landscape, which are truly unforgettable.
Tip: After a day full of adventures on Kriváň, you can relax in our apartments in nearby Tatranská Lomnica or Štrbské Pleso.
beauty of the Western and Low Tatras
Although this article primarily focuses on the High Tatras, we don’t forget about the beauty of the Western and Low Tatras, which are equally enchanting. Our participant Milena shared her experience from the Western Tatras:
“This photo is from a ski touring ascent in the Roháče mountains in the Western Tatras.“ - @milena_minichova
Another participant, Martin, captured the winter atmosphere in the Low Tatras:
“This is Jasná Low Tatras (Chopok North). We were there with a group for a stay combined with skiing and snowboarding in the resort.” - @matesdca
However, Martin also provided us with many different breathtaking shots from his adventurous, which we would be more than happy to share with you.

Each of these spots offers a unique opportunity to capture the beauty of the High Tatras in photos that will remind you of this exceptional experience. And the best part? After a day full of adventures, you can relax in the comfort of Tatrasuites apartments, which provide cozy and luxurious accommodation right in the heart of the Tatras.
